Benny Bunny’s Party

Benny Bunny loves to hop around the house and play with his dog and cat friends.  Usually when Mom goes upstairs for bed, his cage door is shut. One night, the door to his cage was left open.

With the house dark and still, Benny tentatively hopped out of his cage. He sat on the floor, his nose twitching, and his ears listening for footsteps on the stairs.  When the house remained still, Benny hopped across the floor to the living room area rug. After frisking across the rug several time, he moved into the guest bedroom. He hopped under the futon, and raced across the rug.  He explored the kitty scratching post, and cat litter box. Then he frisked across the room again. It was nice to be able to hop and run without anyone else around.

Benny stretched out on the cool wood floor for a short break, enjoying the silence.  The rest of the night, Benny frisked and explored. The night went quickly, and soon Mom came downstairs. Mom was very surprised to see him hopping toward her.

“What are you doing, Benny?” she asked. “Have you been hopping all night?”

Benny sat in front of Mom twitching his nose. He then gave a little frisk and hopped around the carpet.

Mom laughed and shook her head. “You’re so cute, Benny.”

She guided Benny back to his cage and secured the door behind him.

Mom disappeared to the kitchen and returned with veggies, and more hay.

“Eat your food, Benny,” she said, placing the food in his cage.

Benny glanced up at Mom as she locked the cage door again. He watched her walk away to care for the others, as he took a bite of his food. It tasted so good! He took another big bite. He hadn’t realize how hungry and tired he was, until he now. He could hardly keep his eyes open as he finished his breakfast.  I hope my cage door gets left open again, Benny thought, as he fell asleep to dream about his night of partying.

The end.

Summer Shedding

Summer heat means, your dogs and cats are shedding. While you might be annoyed at the extra hairball tumble weeds on your floor, remember that all that loose hair isn’t good for your pet. Dogs and cats require a minimum of weekly brushing year round, even if they are indoors. Long haired cats and dogs may require daily brushing.

The best products I’ve found to help me manage my dog and cats’ shedding are the Furminator products.

Furminator makes stainless steel blade brushes in many varieties to fit every coat length and type. The brushes are very effective at removing not only the top coat, but also the loose undercoat that can cause matting if left on your pet. The brush blades are well made and don’t scratch your pets skin or pull on their fur. I’ve found that brushing my dog and cats with the Furminator brush twice a week really controls my pets’ shedding.

Furminator also makes many waterless sprays that aid in the effectiveness of brushing.. I’m going to tell you my two favorites.

The first one is for cats. I’ve been using Furminator Hairball Prevention spray on my cats for years. It helps reduce shedding and prevents hairballs in cats without having to bathe them. The spray contains Omega 3 Fatty Acids and other natural ingredients that help keep my cats fur shiny and healthy looking.

The second spray is for dogs. I use Furminator detangling waterless spray. My Shih-Tzu has curly fur that gets easily tangled between grooming appointments. This spray is very effective in loosening the tangles, so I can brush through it without pulling his fur. Like the Hairball Prevention spray, the detangling spray is made with Omega 3 Fatty Acids and other natural ingredients to promote healthy fur.

Furminator products will help you keep the excess hair off your dogs and cats so they can enjoy the summer with you. Happy brushing!!

Sonny the Wonder Dog

I’m proud to have shared my life with Sonny the Shih-Tzu for nine years.  He was an incredible dog, who acted more like a person than a dog.  He got bored of standard dog tricks and was very in tune to my feelings and thoughts.  It was at the request of the pet resort’s training director that I learned about teaching Sonny to read.   This was the only trick that he really loved performing.  Over several years, I was able to teach him words, numbers, shapes, colors, and even physics equations.

Sonny and I showed off his reading ability at many training events and classes. Our biggest claim to fame, though was being on Good Morning Texas. Not only did Sonny perform his reading trick perfectly in the busy TV studio, but he also picked the 2011 Super Bowl Winner!!

Since Sonny passed away, I have developed the Sonny the Wonder Dog picture book series.  The series explains why Sonny was so smart – he just had to be an alien from another planet.  The first book in the series, Sonny from Outer Space introduces the readers to how Sonny came into Pamela’s life.
